Parish Pastoral Council
Parish Pastoral Council Guidelines
I. Introduction
In accord with canon 536 of the Code of Canon Law, and as directed by the Archbishop of Dublin,
ST. MAUR'S PARISH, RUSH, CO. DUBLIN
Hereby establishes the following guidelines for its Parish Pastoral Council:
II. Parish Mission Statement
St. Maur's Parish Pastoral Council is made up of priests and parishioners working together to serve the Christian community, based on the Gospel values of love, justice and peace, so all feel welcomed, accepted and valued.
III. Purpose Of The Council And Areas Of Concern
The Parish Pastoral Council aims to fulfil the objectives defined in our Parish Mission Statement by:
Fostering a greater sense of welcome and belonging among all our parishioners, particularly the elderly, the sick, the young, and foreign nationals.
Developing prayer, sacramental and liturgical celebrations that both nourish our parishioners and are an expression of the faith of the parish.
Promoting and developing opportunities for faith formation for our parishioners, thereby deepening and maturing their relationship with Christ.
Reaching out to identify parishioners' needs through wider and varied forms of communication and consultation.
Encouraging and facilitating parishioners in involvement in parish ministry to enable them to recognise, appreciate and use their gifts in the service of Christ and the parish community.
Actively engaging in social justice issues.
IV. Membership
Membership is open to all parishioners who are actively participating in the faith life and worship of the parish and who are available to attend meetings throughout the year.
In forming the Parish Pastoral Council a process of consultation with parishioners is to take place. Nominations for new members are to be invited from all parishioners as the need to fill vacancies arises. The sitting Parish Pastoral Council will consider all nominations submitted by the due closing date and suggest the best possible candidates for the Parish Pastoral Council taking account of, but not limited to, the number of vacancies on the Parish Pastoral Council, the range of talents, skills and abilities available, the needs of the Parish Pastoral Council at any given time, gender balance, age balance, the addresses of candidates and any other factors deemed relevant at any particular time. Those selected will be invited to join the Parish Pastoral Council for at least two but not more than three years.
The Parish Pastoral Council consists of:
The priests of the parish and 12 - 14 members nominated from the parish.
The term of office will be up to three years. Members must step down after 3 years but will be eligible for re-election after a break of two years. Members will step down on a staggered basis so as to maintain levels of knowledge and continuity. Officers will be elected annually.
V. Officers Of The Council
The Officers of the Council are:
The President, who is the incumbent Parish Priest.
The Chairperson, elected annually by the members of the Parish Pastoral Council
The Secretary, elected annually by the members of the Parish Pastoral Council.
VI. Meetings
Meetings are held monthly from September to June on the second Monday of the month.
The minimum number of members required for a quorum is 50% of the members plus one; this must include the Parish Priest or his nominated delegate.
VII. Committees
When specific ministry needs of the parish are identified, standing committees will be set up as necessary. Ad hoc committees will also be set up as needed for specific purposes and with definite time limits.
